The Heritage Foundation announced Thursday that U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) will become the next president of the organization. He takes over for Edwin J. Feulner, the man who first envisioned the think tank in 1973 and has led it as president for the past 36 years.
According to the Heritage Foundation’s own website,
Under his leadership, Heritage helped launch missile defense under President Ronald Reagan and welfare reform under President Bill Clinton and Speaker Newt Gingrich. During the past four years, Heritage has led a principled fight against Obamacare and has taken a lead in advancing the case for entitlement reform.
The American Conservative Union’s Al Al Cardenas congratulated Senator DeMint:
With a lifetime ACU Rating of over 97%, Senator Jim DeMint has been an indispensable conservative leader in the Senate and we look forward to continuing to work with him to advance the important cause of liberty and limited government.
Whether the issue has been preserving our economic freedom, standing up for the rights of the unborn or preserving American exceptionalism and protecting our national security, Jim DeMint has been there for conservatives and the American people.
I also congratulate and thank Dr. Ed Feulner who has spent a lifetime as a giant in the conservative movement and wish him well as he remains an important intellectual leader at Heritage.”
We are now live blogging the closing session of the American for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the Dream Conference. It’s their largest event of the year, attended by conservatives nationwide. Please excuse spelling errors.
Vice President of AFPF, Alan Cobb is first up to speak. Keep checking for updates. Your blogger sat with his teenage children last night at the Ronald Reagan dinner and they mentioned how much time and financial resources he donates to this cause. He is introducing Brent Bozell, KCC’s hero, founder of the Media Reasearch Center.
His father was also a hero of this blogger, helping to start the original conservative movement right before Barry Goldwater ran for the presidency. The number ! story in this election cycle is unemployment and the economy. Yet ABC, CBS, and NBC didn’t report this terrible news, until they absolutely had to. ABC still has not reported it.
Gas prices went up and only 27 stories came out. Yet during the Bush years, four times as many gas prices stories came out.
The media also has plenty of time plenty of time for Mitt Romney and his “gaffs”. Four years ago when Obama went overseas, the Big Three networks treated him like a GOD. Don’t worry because new media will take them over, and we have!!!
Tim Phillips, president of AFP, is introducing the state directors. In this blogger’s opinion, he should give Dallas Woodhouse and the North Carolina team special recognition. We were the very first state, originally organized as Citizens for a Sound Economy.
Mark Levin is now speaking and says its Barack Obama’s birthday, to much laughter.
He says we are standing on great shoulders. He reminded us of the one generation freedom is from extinction as Ronald Reagan said. Abraham Lincoln said that our worst enemy comes from within.
He says things like social justice, economic equality, and such things have come into our culture. It’s hard to believe that the President of the United States is one of the malcontents that are being created. It’s seeping into our culture by indoctrination. We now live in a post constitutional world, thanks to these malcontents.
He mentioned Woodrow Wilson. He condemned Federalism and the notion of state sovereignty. He said liberty was a privildge. The will determine the scope of the office. He called this “constitutional adaptation.” I call it bull crap, said Levin.
Is there anything the Federal Government cannot regulate if it chooses to? Levin mentioned the recent the Supreme Court ruling that said the government can regulate our physical and mental health. It’s a post-constitutional goverment in an increasingly authoritarian society.
He mentioned that it’s Obama’s birthday today, but so what, it’s also Saturday.
No President has had more contempt for the country he leads and for the people he represents. Mr. President, if you don’t understand the way American works, how can you fundamentally transform it?
Levin asks “since when does the money you earn belong to the government?”
Obama said if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.
Obama says it’s time for a revolution, but Levin says its time to reinstate the American Revolution!
The Obama administration has driven up our debt in four years more than $41 trillion, more than all other presidents combined. The poor have gotten poorer. The welfare state is growing and collapsing at the same time.
“What the hell are our kids gonna do”, asks Levin.
The challenge today is much more complicated than previous wars because the challenge is from within.
No society is guaranteed perpetual existence. That’s why we must work for this election, next election, and in the elections beyond. We have no choice. This is our country and we want it back!
Standing roudy ovation.
This ends our live blogging session. We’ll have more on this wonderful Defending the Dream Conference soon.
-Submitted by Congressman John Kline (R-Minn)
As we prepare to honor our veterans today, we remember the sacrifice of those true American heroes who have died and honor those who are still with us.
The tireless efforts of our nation’s servicemen and women and those who served before them have guaranteed generations of Americans the freedom and security we enjoy. While they deserve our gratitude every day, today’s holiday provides our nation an opportunity to come together to honor all veterans, those currently serving, and their families in our thoughts and prayers.
As a nation, we owe more than our gratitude to those brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect the freedom and liberty that we all cherish.
May God bless our veterans and their families today and every day, and may God continue to bless America.
Editor’s Notes: Congressman Kline is a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and was once stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC He closely worked with President Ronald Reagan. His son has followed him into the Marine Corps.
He is also the father of your blogger’s college suite mate, Kathy Kline Danner, while both were students at Meredith College (in Raleigh), during the mid-to-late 1980s. Danner, is now a Williamson County Commissioner and resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
WASHINGTON – Friday night, during the “Tribute to Ronald Reagan Dinner”, radicals with the Occupy DC and a coalition of liberal groups tried violently to crash the Americans for Prosperity Defending the Dream Summit.
These radicals, some of whom carried black flags, wanted to supress rights of individuals to freely assemble and to intimidate conservatives into silence. Black flags often represent anarchy.
Many “Dream” attendees captured the violence on their smart phones. and shared them with the mainstream media. By Saturday morning, the story had became national news. CNN was the first to go national with the story, followed by other outlets. Caleb Hayes, a College Republican from Kansas, was interviewed by at least five different national news sources, as they ran his video of an innocent bystander getting run over by a car from an “occupier”. According to witnesses, the bystander had nothing to do with either group.
All Friday and Saturday afternoon, satellite trucks from media outlets circled the block around the Washington Convention Center, as both Republican Presidential frontrunners, Herman Cain and Mitt Romney, came to speak, along with other top conservatives. The event would have made national news anyway, regardless of the violence that occured, by the Occupiers.
The protestors circled the convention center and tried to enter every single entrance. Police did nothing despite reports that staffers at AFP called 911 four times. However, some video does show police getting involved. Security inside the building quickly moved to lock every entrance and no one was allowed to enter or leave.
KCC interviewed a wheelchair-bound woman who carried a small service dog. When she was finally allowed to leave and go the two short blocks to her hotel, protestors grabbed her dog and tried to pull her from her chair. Luckily, other conservatives came to her aid and security moved everyone from the center back to their hotels. The dog was safely returned, unharmed.
Later, from her hotel room, your blogger could hear firetrucks blazing through the intersection, trying to reopen it to traffic, which KCC observed police NOT doing. KCC does not blame the police officers, but rather their superiors who wouldn’t allow them to do their jobs. Your blogger sensed that the DC leadership felt it might be “bad politics” to appear to be unfriendly with the “Occupiers”.
The entire situation is truly sad. The staff at Americans for Prosperity, both here in North Carolina, and nationally, worked hard to bring us the best Summit yet. Other than the attack, the event went off without a hitch and we bloggers had a lot of fun.
It was great seeing so many friends ride the busses from North Carolina and surrounding states, and seeing the friends we’ve made over the years at the various AFP events.
Thank you AFP, and we look forward to next year!

President Barack Obama visited Apex, North Carolina on Wednesday, trying to sell his jobs bill to a hand-picked small business. The owner, Erv Portman, is an Obama donor, a Democrat, and a Wake County commissioner in a fight for re-election.
After the President’s speech in Apex, his motorcade drove down I-40 into Raleigh, onto the campus of N.C. State University. He arrived at a nearly packed Reynolds auditorium, where 24 years ago this month, President Ronald Reagan visited. Your blogger was in the house that day, along with Senator Jesse Helms and a number of conservative notables. She remembers it being “wall to wall people”, something that didn’t appear to be on television today.
Twenty-four years ago, President Reagan drew a much larger audience than did President Obama. Four large, industrial air conditioners were brought in to cool the huge crowd. Even so, a number of people passed out from the heat. Mr. Reagan even took off his jacket, revealing his bulletproof vest underneath his shirt, which was soaked through.
Wednesday, President Obama claimed that his jobs program would be paid for via higher taxes on the wealthiest taxpayers. Meanwhile, these people already pay the bulk of our taxes and are our major job creators.
He now wants to tax them further so that the government can provide another “stimulus” of money into our state and others. He even went so far as to promise the collegiate audience summer jobs. Additionally, he promised more teachers and a $1300 “to the average working family”.
Since we are all working families, your blogger wonders who he is trying to push off his class warfare language on?
He then tried to sound like a conservative. He promised that the government would live within its means and began his “blame Bush” tactics when he said that we had lived too well “these last ten years”.
Yet, Obama said “a lot of THEM don’t get it,” referring to Republicans, and added “Raleigh needs people who can put country before party.” Believe us, Mr. President, Raleigh has these leaders and we plan to vote you and Governor Beverly Perdue, right out of office in 2012.
The President gave his students a homework assignment. He told them to put on their marching boots and get to work contacting their members of Congress, “even writing a letter”.
We appreciate your orders Mr. President. KCC will certainly follow up. We will contact our Congressman and urge that he vote AGAINST this expensive and unnecessary jobs bill. Have a pleasant flight to back to Washington. There is a community on the south side of Chicago that is missing its organizer right now.
Word on the street is, that in setting up this visit, the President first tried to rent out a Wake County school. An advance team contacted General Anthony Tata, Supt of Public Instruction for Wake County, gave them the thumbs down. The White House then went looking for higher education. Your blogger assumes that Tata didn’t want anyone exploiting Wake County school children for political gain, and KCC applauds him for his actions.
Editor’s note: The President was very careful to stay on message and avoid using the “s” word. He didn’t want to be associated with either of the two failed stimulus acts.
Your blogger’s husband is a double alumnus of NC State University, having both undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering and minors in math.
Thursday, your blogger was explaining to her son, that Prince Harry would be Prince William’s BEST MAN in William’s wedding to Kate Middleton.
Son Bobby, age five, responded, how can Prince Harry be the Best Man?
Ronald Reagan is the BEST man, Bobby concluded.
Wall Street Journal editorialist, John Fund, says Ronald Reagan was inspired by a book he read age 11. The book was an inspiring novel.
When Reagan was 11, his mother gave him an inspirational novel called “That Printer of Udell’s,” the story of a young man who combines a belief in “practical Christianity” with Horatio Alger-like grit.
Read the rest of John Fund’s piece here. Fund is a favorite of this blogger and she sees him occasionally, at events in Washington. She hopes he will visit the bloggers room at CPAC, which begins on Thursday.

Congressional challenger, Bill Randall, has run a long campaign. He jumped in the race nearly two years ago and had to fight off a near, last-minute and popular primary challenger. Now, it’s crunch time, with liberal Congressman Brad Miller (D-NC-13).
He wants to run the ad, below, on local television in the 13th District, so look for it soon. Any extra monies you can contribute, here, will help him add more air time.
Bill is a U.S. Naval veteran who has shown leadership in crisis situations, and he truly believes that America’s greatest days are ahead, just as did the late President Ronald Reagan. Your blogger proudly voted for him yesterday, on the first day of North Carolina’s voting season.
Miller is Inaccurate and Completely Unfair
Meanwhile, liberal Brad Miller is running inaccurate ads about Randall’s statements on the Gulf oil spill. He took a quote completely out of context and most likely used the feed from News 14 Carolina without permission. You can see their logo barely blurred out in the ad that Miller is running against Randall.
Your blogger was there when the statements were made, and she assures her valued readers that Randall does NOT think that the oil spill was some part of a nutty conspiracy.
Come on Brad. You voted for Nancy Pelosi’s Obamacare plan, and like David Price and Bob Etheridge, you’ve never met a tax increase you didn’t LOVE. You should worry more about your relationship with Barack Obama and Pelosi than lying about Bill Randall’s record!
Miller oddly calls Randall and the tea party “extreme”, but it Miller himself who is “odd” and “extreme”.
Brad Miller and Church
This blogger attended the same church as Miller from 1993 to 2007 . On the major Christian holidays, Miller served as an usher, along with his then-estranged wife . The church was a good one, but the sideshow was so disgusting, it was a contributing factor to KCC’s decision to move her membership. Miller carefully calculated when to show up, so as to get the most bang for his “appearance”. KCC misses it there.
Katy’s Conservative Corner was proud to earlier endorse Bill Randall and is thankful that he is offering his leadership skills to North Carolina, and to our great nation. Bill Randall says he is called to serve, and he has done so.
Bill Randall was even discussed on this New Zealand freedom-lover’s blog!
If you are like this blogger, the chance to see a movie telling the TRUTH comes around about as often as a liberal telling the truth. Worry no more, folks, it’s time to check out “I WANT YOUR MONEY“, a film by MOTIVE Entertainment, the company that quarterbacked the grassroots film campaigns for The Passion of the Christ, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and a host of other blockbusters.
Join filmmaker Ray Griggs in this documentary film I Want Your Money as he contrasts the two paths the United States can take using the words and actions of Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan. The film uses interviews from well-known public figures, experts, movie clips, dramatic portrayals, music, graphics and even comedic animation to tell the story in the plainest terms of the choice between the Obama and the Reagan views of the role of the federal government in our society.
It also examines how these big government programs have been tried in the past at great moral and financial cost to the nation. California is offered as a case-in-point in understanding what economic challenges might face the nation, if we choose the larger government path. Finally, I Want Your Money is a call to action for those who care about the future of the United States. And, it’s funny!
Watch the preview below and get in line at your local screening. The film opens on Friday, October 15th, just in time for the mid term election season!
