American Crossroads on Wednesday, launched a new television ad in North Carolina that blasts President Obama for his failed economic policies, and demonstrates that contrary to Obama’s “Forward” campaign slogan, America is really moving backward on his watch.
Supported by a $811,000 television buy, the new 30-second ad will run in North Carolina for ten days. The spot, entitled “Forward?,” highlights a series of economic facts on the extent of Obama’s economic malaise, including that 40% of families are living paycheck to paycheck on Obama’s watch.
“For Barack Obama, ‘Forward’ is the new backward, because another four years of Obama’s economic policies will only keep moving America backward,”
said American Crossroads director of state and regional media relations Nate Hodson. “Obama’s hollow campaign slogan is another attempt to divert attention from the fact that during Obama’s tenure, unemployment, household incomes, gas prices and the national debt are all getting worse.”
Editor’s Note: American Crossroads is a non-profit 527 political organization dedicated to renewing America’s commitment to individual liberty, limited government, free enterprise and a strong national defense through informed and effective political action. American Crossroads seeks to educate voters and empower citizens to hold lawmakers and office-seekers accountable for where they stand. (Emphasis added.)
ST PETERSBURG FL Schools are closed for Monday, the Port of Tampa closes on Sunday, and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect. Yet the 40th Republican National Convention will go on as planned, albet a day late.
Kyle Downey, spokesman for the Republican National Committee told media that Monday had been planned to highlight President Barack Obama’s failures. Now that will be spread over the remaining evenings, he stated.
This blogger had quite the day traveling to Tampa International Airport. There were several people on the connection from Atlanta who were convention bound, but not all of them were happy and excited about making the trip.
As KCC was awaiting her van share ride to the North Carolina delegation hotel, a woman asked her why she was here.
KCC thought that to be a very odd question and replied “to attend and write about the Republican convention.” The other lady made it clear that she and her large group were all here to protest.
With all the talk of bad weather on the way, the local news media is actually WORRIED about the protesters. Apparently, they are all staying in tents, which could blow away, forcing shelters to open to accommodate the opposition.
Oddly, the protesters this blogger saw were worried about jobs and they were from union states like Wisconsin. She wanted badly to educate them that unions were preventing new jobs, and in fact destroyed jobs. Additionally, the best way for government to “create jobs” is to reduce regulations and then get out of the way. Those people have no need to be so mean, as it’s a simple difference of ideology.
Saturday night, downtown Tampa is completely blocked off and the police presence is heavy. Meanwhile, here in St. Petersburg seems to be the fun place to be. We look forward to getting out and exploring, rain or not. Unfortunately for this blogger, her back is acting up and has left her in a great deal of pain.
Sunday, we also look forward to dipping our toes in the Gulf for the first time. Growing up at a beach, KCC’s parents didn’t exactly take vacations to other beaches. So this will be a first for her.
Finally, we’d like to thank Rob Benningfield for all the love and support. Without him, none of this would be possible. I love you honey.
Back to the fun and more Sunday…
We are now live blogging the closing session of the American for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the Dream Conference. It’s their largest event of the year, attended by conservatives nationwide. Please excuse spelling errors.
Vice President of AFPF, Alan Cobb is first up to speak. Keep checking for updates. Your blogger sat with his teenage children last night at the Ronald Reagan dinner and they mentioned how much time and financial resources he donates to this cause. He is introducing Brent Bozell, KCC’s hero, founder of the Media Reasearch Center.
His father was also a hero of this blogger, helping to start the original conservative movement right before Barry Goldwater ran for the presidency. The number ! story in this election cycle is unemployment and the economy. Yet ABC, CBS, and NBC didn’t report this terrible news, until they absolutely had to. ABC still has not reported it.
Gas prices went up and only 27 stories came out. Yet during the Bush years, four times as many gas prices stories came out.
The media also has plenty of time plenty of time for Mitt Romney and his “gaffs”. Four years ago when Obama went overseas, the Big Three networks treated him like a GOD. Don’t worry because new media will take them over, and we have!!!
Tim Phillips, president of AFP, is introducing the state directors. In this blogger’s opinion, he should give Dallas Woodhouse and the North Carolina team special recognition. We were the very first state, originally organized as Citizens for a Sound Economy.
Mark Levin is now speaking and says its Barack Obama’s birthday, to much laughter.
He says we are standing on great shoulders. He reminded us of the one generation freedom is from extinction as Ronald Reagan said. Abraham Lincoln said that our worst enemy comes from within.
He says things like social justice, economic equality, and such things have come into our culture. It’s hard to believe that the President of the United States is one of the malcontents that are being created. It’s seeping into our culture by indoctrination. We now live in a post constitutional world, thanks to these malcontents.
He mentioned Woodrow Wilson. He condemned Federalism and the notion of state sovereignty. He said liberty was a privildge. The will determine the scope of the office. He called this “constitutional adaptation.” I call it bull crap, said Levin.
Is there anything the Federal Government cannot regulate if it chooses to? Levin mentioned the recent the Supreme Court ruling that said the government can regulate our physical and mental health. It’s a post-constitutional goverment in an increasingly authoritarian society.
He mentioned that it’s Obama’s birthday today, but so what, it’s also Saturday.
No President has had more contempt for the country he leads and for the people he represents. Mr. President, if you don’t understand the way American works, how can you fundamentally transform it?
Levin asks “since when does the money you earn belong to the government?”
Obama said if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.
Obama says it’s time for a revolution, but Levin says its time to reinstate the American Revolution!
The Obama administration has driven up our debt in four years more than $41 trillion, more than all other presidents combined. The poor have gotten poorer. The welfare state is growing and collapsing at the same time.
“What the hell are our kids gonna do”, asks Levin.
The challenge today is much more complicated than previous wars because the challenge is from within.
No society is guaranteed perpetual existence. That’s why we must work for this election, next election, and in the elections beyond. We have no choice. This is our country and we want it back!
Standing roudy ovation.
This ends our live blogging session. We’ll have more on this wonderful Defending the Dream Conference soon.
Gov. Beverly Perdue on Sunday vetoed legislation that would have paved the way for a robust local energy sector, lured private investment to the state and created new jobs for North Carolinians.
Below is a joint statement from Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg):
Gov. Perdue’s latest flip-flop on shale gas exploration is an attempt to slam the brakes on the creation of a vibrant new economic sector in North Carolina.
“The General Assembly incorporated many of the governor’s recommendations in a bipartisan plan to begin developing the regulatory framework for affordable, clean energy alternatives. We are disappointed, but not surprised, that when decision time neared, she once again caved to her liberal base rather than support the promise of more jobs for our state.”
Gov. Perdue’s stance on the creation of an energy sector in North Carolina has changed repeatedly in recent years. After stating her support for the development of offshore energy, she vetoed the Energy Jobs Act, which would have put pressure on President (Barack) Obama to open the East Coast for energy exploration.
Earlier this year the governor flip-flopped again, expressing her confidence natural gas exploration could be done safely after a research trip to Pennsylvania. Her administration even issued a report concluding shale gas exploration could be done safely.
Editor’s Notes: A number of sources have expressed confidence that the Obama campaign was the reason beyond Perdue’s decision not to run for a second term as Governor of North Carolina.
Additionally, please contact your state legislators to encourage them to vote to override the governor’s veto. A special list of those needing to be contacted appear at the bottom of this page.
It’s time to work the phones, North Carolina conservatives! This according to the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women.
According an action alert sent to members, legislative chairman Joyce Krawiec wrote:
Our Republican led House and Senate recently passed S820 to allow for Hydraulic Fracturing in NC. This technology would enable NC to harvest natural gas which would be a huge job creator for our state. The Governor had said she would be in favor of this legislation but now, it is expected that she will veto this legislation. We need to contact certain Legislators that we believe may be leaning to vote for overriding the Governor’s veto.
Krawiec urged readers to telephone and e-mail the following Representatives. She added that callers should be extremely polite and keep your message simple:
Don’t let Governor Perdue continue to block jobs and energy security in North Carolina. Please override the veto of Senate Bill 820.

Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s largest advocate for economic freedom, announced today the roll-out of a significant new effort in response to the Supreme Court ruling on President Obama’s health care law.
AFP President Tim Phillips said, “While we are deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court ruling, this is far from over. AFP will continue to work to defeat President (Barack) Obama’s unaffordable, irresponsible, unaccountable law that burdens the American people with a crushing new tax.”
The ad begins airing today in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin.
“Not A Tax” is just one part of a multi-tiered effort that includes online activism and significant grassroots action in over a dozen states. The total budget for this effort is $9 million.
According to North Carolina’s statewide director, Dallas Woodhouse, the North Carolina portion of the ad buy is $1 million. ”This is a vital state in the upcoming national election” he told a group the Craven County taxpayers, meeting in New Bern on Thursday evening.
Ironically, on the final run day of “The Private Sector is Fine“, your blogger noticed that the Obama team had finally gotten on the air to dispute it.
Watch the ad below:
Join the North Carolina Americans for Prosperity as they hit the road headed for Greenville, New Bern, and Wilmington for their “Not Doing Fine” events. (See video, below.) You may have seen President Obama declare that the private sector is “doing fine” while thousands are out of work and companies are struggling with executive branch demands, such as Obamacare.
It’s costing companies so much that they cannot afford to hire more workers that the cycle of recession continues. Yet, our clueless President continues to thumb his (very large) nose at the problem.
What can you do? If you live in Eastern North Carolina, come on out to the following events and let your voice be heard. Local TV and news papers, plus KCC and other bloggers will be on hand to record what YOU think. Don’t miss out!

Republican Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle from New York’s 25th District has been ranked the most conservative woman in the House. She is wildly popular among pro-life groups, and her strong stance against government spending has earned her a Club for Growth rating of 92, a full 24 points higher than the next best rating in NY. Rep. Buerkle is a strong, independent, female conservative — the kind that the Republican Party sorely needs in Washington.
So naturally, the New York State Party is intentionally redistricting her out of her seat. Their own, self-drawn map places Rep. Buerkle in a nearly impossible electoral situation.
Anyone who is familiar with the New York Republican establishment shouldn’t be too surprised by this.
In 2009, the state GOP forced the liberal, pro-union, pro-choice Dede Scozzafava onto the Republican ticket in the NY-09 special election, causing a third-party rebellion within the conservative movement that led to Scozzafava’s withdrawal from the race and endorsement of the Democrat over the conservative candidate.
In 2010, the establishment tried to hoist candidate, Rick Lazio, onto the GOP gubernatorial ticket – only to result in yet another voter revolt that put Carl Paladino on the ballot, a candidate who went down in flames in November.
This time, instead of forcing a flawed candidate onto the ticket, the state GOP is trying to redistrict a good one – a great one, actually – out of contention, simply because she won’t play ball with the Albany old boys club.
Luckily, the conservative movement is identifying this for what it is – an attempt to get an independent-minded, strong female conservative out of the establishment’s way – straight out of the gate.
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), head of the Republican Study Committee, has already said he will fully support Buerkle in her primary fight against any challenger, even if it means defeating a Republican incumbent in a different district. The Chairman of the Onandaga County GOP, located within Buerkle’s district, has announced his support as well.
In fact, the conservative outcry has reached the ears of real conservative voices like Erick Erickson, who recently criticized the “tone deaf” state party and urged other conservatives to start paying attention to the unfolding fiasco.
The Republican Party should be applauding and encouraging strong conservative women to run for office and fight for fiscal sanity in Washington. Instead, the New York State GOP wants to redistrict them out of existence. Hopefully, conservatives – especially us (sic) conservative women – will recognize this shameful move for what it is, and put pressure on Albany to keep Rep. Buerkle in Congress. The GOP, and the country, needs her there.
Please check out my Op-Ed posted on The Daily Caller and leave a comment of support for the Congresswoman. We need strong conservative women representing us in Congress.

Editor’s Notes: Not too many years ago, something similar happened in the North Carolina State House. The Citizens of the old North State elected a Republican majority, in spite of the Democrat party’s gerrymandering. The GOP Seniority system was set and the people destined to take their places in leadership positions prepared to do so.
Along came a state representative and longtime party activist, Richard Morgan of Moore County. He scared up eight of his best pals and brokered a “power-sharing” agreement with the Democrats, and setting up a “co-speakership” in the State House of Representatives. Co-Speakership? What happened to the GOP majority that had just been elected? Morgan”s pals shared key committee chairmanships and the Republicans who had worked so hard were left with little.
How did it work? Like a broken clock.
Two years later, the Democrats were voted back into the majority and didn’t give it up until 2010, when the anti-Obama wave hit the country and people wanted to go in a different direction.
Two years after his scheme, Richard Morgan was voted out of office, with the support of many from Wake and surrounding counties, including Art Pope, a benefactor of conservative and libertarian causes. The others were “hunted down” voted out, too by recruiting good candidates. Such a long story cannot be completely covered here, but thankfully we in North Carolina do not have a short-sighted NCGOP.
American conservatives are reeling Thursday after the announcement that icon and blogger extraordinaire, Andrew Breitbart, died just after midnight.
Stacy McCain, of the Other McCain, thus far has the best story. He had seen Andrew much more recently than had this blogger. KCC saw him in February at CPAC and had a great conversation last summer in St. Louis. She met his middle-school-age son, who’d just been given an Albert Pujols rookie-signed baseball and traveled often with his Dad.
At the February CPAC, Breitbart mentioned in a speech that he had videos that would expose President Obama for the youthful racist radical that he was.
We are in tears over this one. The world has lost a fighter who fought to the bitter end. His last twitter post was at 2:25 am EST. He was arguing with someone who was questioning his journalism skills. Always speaking his mind, Breitbart called the man a “putz” but apologized.
According to our friend and fellow blogger, Jimmie Bise, Jr, when Breitbart launched Big Government, he borrowed money from his father to get the truth about what was happening out there. Look at the site today at it is full of advertising, and writers. Plus, Breitbart added companion sites such as Big Hollywood and Big Journalism, etc.
Enjoy the short memorial video below that shows Andrew in conflict with Glenn Beck dissenters after Beck’s big speech at the Lincoln Memorial, two years ago. May God bless his family and grant him eternal peace.
Lately it seems, when conservatives come to town, the cockroaches venture out of the dark and come after the candy. Our liberal friends at Occupy DC and their union thug counterparts are planning activities to disrupt the largest conservative political gathering.
According to multiple sources, the Occupiers are scheduled to pitch tents on the lawn of the CPAC Hotel, the Marriott Wardman Park. Your blogger even saw ads requesting donations of tents.
Members of the AFL-CIO have registered for the conference and have booked at least 30 rooms in the hotel.
At the November 2011 Defending the American Dream Conference, sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, Occupiers stormed the hotel and convention center, injuring this blogger.
These people aren’t simply our opposition, they take hatred to an entirely new level. They don’t know what they stand for and they resent anyone with a job who works hard to take care of themselves and their family.
Many of these Occupiers live at home with their parents, sort of a “slacker” generation. They hate capitalism, the very system that brought them the prosperity they grew up enjoying. Yet they’d rather live in a disease infested tent, and drop out of society.
They are planning “creative activities” to disrupt the conference on Friday and Saturday, Smart Girl Politics Action, a conservative women’s organization, has warned its members to stay safe:
The SGPA leadership team, members, and many of our bloggers will be attending the event. We would urge those of you attending to be alert, and to take every precaution in keeping yourself safe. The SGPA leadership team, members, and many of our bloggers will be attending the event. We would urge those of you attending to be alert, and to take every precaution in keeping yourself safe.
Wednesday evening, your blogger spotted an Occupier using one of the public computers in the lobby of the Wardman Park Hotel. She was easy to pick out. She wasn’t dressed neatly, wore a “Che” hat, and had black and white colors on, while the rest of us cheerily sport our red, white, and blue. In short, we are the happy ones and they are the ones with an ax to grind.
More information is available here. KCC promises to bring you news on this situation as it develops. Let the Occupiers try to come after us. We’ll meet them head on with video cameras in hand, ready for uploading! Bring it on! I may not be able to carry a gun in the District, but I do have my cane and KCC wouldn’t mind using it in self-defense.
