1:55 p.m. Convention is about to get underway. Be sure to update your browser often to keep up with the latest.
2:13 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance and the opening prayer started us off. Currently NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes is discussing the goals of the convention. He say “focus laser like and do not be distracted on ‘Weenie gate’ (sic)and the mess about the former NC Senator and Veep candidate, Johnny Edwards.”
“Keep focused on getting the Federal spending under control, and keep the shower curtain in the tub.” (What arguments happen within, stay within.)
The motto is Win!
2:17 Convention Billy Miller has been given the gavel. The gentleman from Mecklenburg County is a master of Robert’s Rules of Order and is a heck of a lot of fun to listen to. Presently, he’s going over the basics of the rules.
First item on the agenda, is a video from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn-6th). She says in ’12 we must win the “triple crown”. That’s the U.S. House, Senate, and the White House. We cannot let Obama continue these power grabs through the executive branch, she said and it shows how powerful that bully pulpit is. Watch the video here:
Unfortunately, Bachmann could not attend as her daughter is graduating this weekend.
2:23 Court of Appeals Judge Bob Hunter is now speaking. He thanks the delegates for supporting the Republican candidates on the court. Since he can’t say it, your blogger will. We need to keep electing conservative judges so we can have law and order in North Carolina. That’s a KCC quote, not from Judge Hunter.
Vice Chairman Tim Johnson: He’ll be MC’ing this next session. He is thanking our auxillary organizations, whose state Chairmans will be speaking next. He said they do the bulk of the work, the heavy lifting, and they rarely are thanked. He wants to do more with our Teenaged Republicans at age 14 and 15 and not wait until they are 17 and 18 and go to college. We need them now!
GOP Men’s Federation: Jason Abernathy: Worked hard to elected Republicans at all levels. Their exec committee currently working on 2o12 by reorganizing group and they are federating (adding) new clubs. 7:00 a.m. is their annual meeting. Come and learn more about how you can start a club.
Young Republicans: Now called Young Professional Republicans, chairman Jonathan Bandy is up. Currently, there are only 6 or 7 local YPR clubs. This is troubling as the Young Democrats are in 80 of 100 counties. In 2010, they went to Virginia and helped their YRs knock on 20k doors in a day and a half in a couple of House District races. They also have a new state website. NCFYPR.com Check it out. Next project is going to Mecklenburg and helping them take back their city and their mayorship. It costs about $10, 000 to do a deployment, so they need support. They also have a national YR summit coming to Charlotte to show that YRs are a force to be reckoned with.
College Republicans: Chairman Aaron Dancy not here. (Your blogger particularly loves this group of young people. She cut her teeth in this group and attended her first NCGOP convention at the tender age of 18. She already had the political bug, learning the mechanics of campaigns, and how to do the basics.
Teenage Republicans: Sorry we missed the beautiful young lady who is speaking but she is discussing the ways that her group is trying to help the party. Your blogger certainly wishes there at been such a group at New Bern Senior High School in the early 1980s. She had no one to help her during the infamous Hunt Helms Senate campaign.
County Chairmans Association: Bill Wright says big events like this one don’t just happen. We should thank all the people responsible. The Association has been hard at work these last few months. Our purpose is to help our County Chairs and county parties to do training in precinct organizations and in fundraising. Call on them and they will be glad to help you. Come to their breakout session on Saturday morning at 10:15 to learn more. They will have an excellent speaker. Their breakfast is at 7:30.
Women’s Federation: Dena Barnes gets a big round of applause as she takes the podium. We aren’t just baking cookies. We are taking the lead in grassroots activism. We are speaking out on what we want. We go to Raleigh to support issues important to us all, and show our Republican members that we support them. We had 2500 members last year and we need to double that next year to get rid of Obama and put a Republican governor back in Raleigh.
3:19 Currently, the convention stands in recess while the Credentials Committee is finalizing its report. Please stand by.
This currently ends this blogging session. We will begin a new live blogging session when the convention reconvenes. Thanks for reading Katy’s Conservative Corner.

Martha Jenkins is an executive officer and secretary of the convention. What the HELL is she doing wearing a Wayne King sticker? Shouldn’t she at least make an attempt to ACT neutral??? Typical garbage from the NCGOP hierarchy.
