CPAC Sensation Jumps into GOP Race

Fmr. Gov. Gary Johnson is hopes to be the next Ron Paul.

Gary Johnson, former GOP Governor of New Mexico may be little known to most of us, is huge amongst Libertarian circles.  Many of the followers of Rep. Ron Paul love Johnson, and he was a hit at CPAC this past February.

He jumped into the Republican primary race Thursday.  He does not completely support the GOP platform, as

he favors the legalization of marijuana, and and supports a woman’s right to have an abortion in the early stages of pregnancy.

Johnson fancies himself as a cowboy and at CPAC, he passed out cowboy hats to his supporters.  Many picked up the hats, just to get one, and then removed the Johnson name.

NOTE:  This writer was official media at CPAC and witnessed this “do-not-miss-event” of  conservative movers and shakers.  There were many Libertarians at the event, as well.  They rode in on buses organized by libertarian groups.

It’s also important to note that there are many libertarian Republicans who are pro-life, such as Rep. Ron Paul, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. Justin Amash and Sen. Mike Lee.

Regarding the libertarian Republican CPAC attendees, they largely purchased their own tickets, unlike many Romney supporters who had their expenses paid by the Romney organization. Let’s face it: libertarian Republicans are just more motivated to get involved in the process.

I agree with you, Dave. The student tickets were cheap, and no matter who paid for what, there were many libertarian students and older there. My point is that Johnson is not pro-life, but that is fine with many of his fans. I do admire Dr. Paul his pro-life views.

Others tend to tweek their views over time, as they learn more on a particular topic.

      Thanks so much for writing!
