Rep. Renee Ellmers On Keeping Government Open
Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-2) released the following statement upon the late night announcement of an agreement to keep the government open while cutting additional spending:
“The American people have made it clear that they want us to cut spending and with the short-term bill agreed to tonight the 112th Congress is doing just that.
“We fought to keep the government open so we could cut spending. Democrats wanted to shut the government down so they could continue the out-of-control spending binge that threatened to bankrupt our country for generations to come.
“The short-term bill agreed to tonight includes $2 billion in cuts, and most importantly, provides funding for government departments so that our men and women in the military will not go without a paycheck. It also prevents a government shutdown for another week — allowing for agreement on a long term budget set to include the largest spending cut in American history.
She concluded:
“I am committed to continue fighting for cuts in spending whenever and wherever possible and will keep my focus on that goal. The agreement tonight clears the way for the House Republican budget plan that will cut trillions and promote much needed job creation.”
Editor’s note: Last Wednesday, Congresswoman Ellmers also appeared at a Cut Spending rally on Capitol Hill, sponsored by the Americans for Prosperity. KCC will be posting the video of her talk soon.
