CPAC 2011: Mitt Romney

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was introduced by his wife Ann who mentioned her struggles with Multiple Sclerosis. Romney sweetly praised his wife, saying he has always been in her shadow. Ann joked that Obama is trying so hard not to act like a leftist that his last State of the Union (SOTU) speech sounded like Romney’s 2010 CPAC speech.

Romney claims Obama revealed no real changes in the SOTU, though. He joked that the SOTU was not “Brave New World”, but merely “Groundhog Day”. Romney pointed out that Obama’s solutions are simply more government spending.

Romney mocked Obama’s intention to win the war in Afghanistan “unless it runs past August 2012″. Romney says the Taliban may not have an Air Force, but they have a calendar! Given Obama’s handling of Iran or North Korea, Romney contends America cannot survive much more of Obama’s feckless foreign policy.

Romney mocked Obama’s contention that the bad economy “could be worse”. Romney claimed Canada created more new jobs in January than we did.

Romney contended that liberals should be ashamed of how their policies have hurt America. He said their European-style fiscal policies will fail.

Romney says we’re “blessed with a unique American genius”. He praised America for the wars of liberation we’ve fought, for the lives of the sick and hungry we’ve saved. He says he’ll “never apologize for America” because he believes in America and its principles.

[I'm here on the balcony surrounded by Romney flunkies, mostly college kids, who came just for his speech. They cheer him enthusiastically. They all leave when Romney is done. At least they're not obnoxious like the Ron/Rand Paul brownshirts, though. I should also note that the lovely and talented Ann Coulter, in her hilarious and witty Saturday CPAC comedy routine, predicted that the GOP would lose in 2012 if we selected Romney as our Presidential nominee. Ouch.]
