Wilmington Dem to Challenge Congressman McIntyre in 2012

In politics, conventional wisdom says you either want to be the first to announce or the last.  Wilmington, NC  Democrat, Del Pietro, has decided that he wants to be the very first.  He announced that he will challenge Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC, 7) in a primary in 2012.

He told the Wilmington Morning Star on Tuesday that

McIntyre has has voted against the Democratic Party too many times, calling the incumbent’s record “one of the worst cases of political infidelity in the entire country.”

The district lines will be updated in the North Carolina General Assembly this session, after the 2010 Census, so no one currently knows where the district will actually be. Republicans that took control of the Legislature, for the first time since Reconstruction, say they will draw the districts “fairly” and plan not to gerrymander. KCC assumes that means no more bug spatter districts for North Carolina!
