The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Tuesday, Congressman Heath Shuler (D-NC, 11), will start carrying a concealed handgun at public events in his district in response to Saturday’s shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Reporter Bill Theobald wrote that Shuler has worked hard to raise his profile on the House floor as leader of the moderate Democrats, known as the “Blue Dogs”. ” However, nothing he has done has gotten him as much attention as this…”
Theobald also wrote that Shuler obtained a concealed carry permit in 2009 after his life was threatened. ( The same happened to this blogger in 2007.)
Shuler was endorsed by the National Rifle Association in 2010, a group in which KCC is a longtime member.
