Congresswoman-Elect Ellmers (NC-2) Assigned Committee Posts

This week, Congresswoman-elect Renee Ellmers received her committee assignments.  She received spots on the Agriculture, Small Business, and Foreign Relations committees.

Mrs. Ellmers was a tea party darling during the long, close campaign, and was endorsed by such conservative groups as Smart Girl Politics, and former Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin.

Mrs. Ellmers made the following statementt:

“I am very pleased and honored to announce I have been recommended to serve on the Agriculture, Small Business and Foreign Affairs committees in the 112thCongress.  These assignments will put me in a unique position to work on issues particularly important to the constituents of the Second District.”

Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) contacted Mrs. Ellmers to let her know that the House Steering Committee had recommended her for the three committee assignments.  Mrs. Ellmers will be sworn in as the Representative for North Carolina’s Second Congressional District on January 5, 2011.

North Carolina’s Second District has a rich agricultural history and is home to many farmers.  It is also home to many active members of the military stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC.  The seats on the Agriculture and Foreign Affairs Committees are particularly important to those communities.

Additionally,  the Small Business Committee addresses a wide range of diverse issues including those related to health care, contracting and technology, rural areas and trade.  A major portion of Mrs. Ellmers campaign was devoted to her expertise in health care issues.

“I am delighted that the Steering Committee has made these recommendations.  I look forward to getting to work on these three very important committees to address the concerns of the farmers, small business owners, men and women of the armed forces, the constituents of the Second District and the state of North Carolina,” Ellmers said.

Your blogger, along with hundreds of thousands across the nation, and in the second district, are proud to be sending Mrs. Ellmers to Washington.

KCC looks forward to reporting on her activities as Mrs. Ellmers learns her way about the halls of Congress as a member of one of the most powerful freshman classes, ever.

I would have liked to see Renee land either Energy and Commerce or the Ways and Means committee (with a health subcommittee on either). Because she won by such a narrow margin, it would have made sense to put her there. (Because the N.R.C.C. ignored her, the OWED her.) However, all three committee assignments work well in south-central North Carolina. Agriculture is a natural for that part of the state. Small business makes sense given they will be the engine that finally pulls the economy out of the mire. With its Regulations and Health Care subcommittee, congresswoman Ellmers can put her fingerprints on the repeal of Obama Care. I’m especially glad she got Foreign Affairs. The liberal Slate magazine already decries that appointment given her spot on, if politically incorrect, stance against the Victory Mosque at Ground Zero. She hasn’t been sworn in yet and she’s already kicking up dust. Wait until she really gets started!

I do hope that she is appointed to serve on the Subcommittee on Regulations and Healthcare that is part of the Small Business Committee. We need healthcare professionals, like Congresswoman Ellmers, to put a stranglehold on the effects of Obamamcare until it can be repealed.

I am so happy for Renee Ellmers and for NC. I wish her well in Congress.
