Elaine, Where DO YOU Stand? A Debate Preview (video)
It seems like Elaine Marshall (left), the Democrat Fall-gal running against Republican Richard Burr in North Carolina’s US Senate Race, doesn’t have a clue where she stands.
Back in the spring, she stood strongly with President Barack Obama on his liberal issues. In a recent debate, she seemed to stand to the right of the late Jesse Helms. Too bad she couldn’t tell the truth if she wanted to. Come on Elaine!
In tonight’s (Thursday’s) debate, the Burr Campaign re-released the web video titled “Fence”.
The web video highlights her contradicting statements regarding where she stands on important legislation and the serious issues facing this country.

OBAMACARE
Marshall Called Obama-Care “an opportunity to deliver change we cannot pass up.” ‘Elaine Marshall: Finishing the Job on Health Care Reform’ March 21, 2010 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/elaine-marshall/finishing-the-job-on-heal_b_507446.html
Marshall: “I am not going to sit back and watch while Richard Burr tries to undo health care reform…That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate; because while Richard Burr is trying to repeal good legislation.” ‘It’s Time We Repeal Senator Richard Burr’ BlueNC April 6, 2010 [verbatim Marshall fundraising email post] http://www.bluenc.com/its-time-we-repeal-senator-richard-burr#ixzz130npejqv

Marshall: “This bill was ugly. The process was ugly. There’s no doubt about it. But a lot of the ugliness has been worked out.” Elaine Marshall: NCAB-WUNC North Carolina Senate Debate, October 11, 2010 [Chapel Hill, NC]
Marshall: “It [Obama-Care] is a start. It is a start. We’ve got to fix things that might be a problem, but we’ve got to lower costs on families…I do hope that they will be very successful.” Elaine Marshall: NCAB-WUNC North Carolina Senate Debate, October 11, 2010 [Chapel Hill, NC]
PUBLIC OPTION
MARSHALL CALLED FOR A PUBLIC OPTION…
Marshall Called Obama-Care “Imperfect” Without The Public Option. “Hours away from passing meaningful — albeit imperfect — health care reform. I had hoped that the Senate and House would include the public option in order to ensure competition and reduce prices.” (Elaine Marshall, Op-Ed, “Finishing The Job On Health Care Reform,” The Huffington Post, www.huffingtonpost.com/elaine-marshall, 3/21/10)
Marshall: “I Have Been A Strong Supporter Of The Public Option Since Day One.” (Elaine Marshall, “Orange To Blue: My Answers To Your Questions,” Daily Kos, www.dailykos.com, Posted 4/5/10)
NOW SAYS SHE HOPES WE ‘DON’T HAVE TO CONSIDER’ A PUBLIC OPTION…
Marshall: “I have talked about the public option…I’m hoping that the exchanges will become robust and available and that we don’t have to consider that [a public option].” Elaine Marshall: WFAE Candidate Interview (WUNC simulcast) Charlotte, NC 9/16/10
STIMULUS
Marshall: “I don’t like deficit spending. It doesn’t work for people. It doesn’t work for the country.” The Asheville Citizen-Times September 1, 2002
BUT MARSHALL SUPPORTED THE STIMULUS…
“In the U.S. Senate, Marshall says she would have supported the president’s health care reform bill and the stimulus package.” (‘Elaine Marshall: Do voters want experience, or experienced youth?’ Laura Leslie, NC Public Radio, 4/15/10)
IN JUNE, MARSHALL CALLED FOR EVEN MORE MONEY…
Marshall: “The stimulus money might not have been enough, and now it may be hard to get some more, we only get a couple of bites of the apple.” Elaine Marshall Live at Jane’s Salon March 21, 2010 http://www.bluenc.com/elaine-marshall-visits-janes-salon-tonight-7
Marshall: “I understand the concern for the deficit, but right now is not the time to be cutting back…we’ve seen what happens when capitalism takes over.” (NC Bar Association Forum/Debate 6/26/10)
Marshall: “Uh, and we can’t cut our way out of it. We’ve got to grow our way through this deficit.” (NC Bar Association Forum/Debate 6/26/10)
BUT NOW MARSHALL DOES NOT SUPPORT A SECOND STIMULUS…
Marshall: “Well I would not vote for a second stimulus, we need to create jobs through the private sector…” Elaine Marshall: WFAE Candidate Interview (WUNC simulcast) Charlotte, NC 9/16/10
