PETA Targets Boy Scouts over Merit Badge

Boy Scouts of America Celebrates 100 Years in 2010

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an extreme lefty group, believe that all animals have the exact rights as humans.  They are at it again, targeting the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

They want the BSA to eliminate the Fishing Merit badge for those boys who exhibit a mastery of fishing.    The very thing  many mainstream Americans enjoy, fishing, is being preyed upon by the group that many  jokingly call “People Eating Tasty Animals“.

CNA News wrote:

Fishing is an activity that PETA claims “[teaches] young people that hooking, maiming, suffocating, and killing [fish] is acceptable.”

So many groups are after our Boy Scouts these days. That group seems to be one of the few for our youth that holds together American traditions and values. Your blogger’s brother earned the Eagle Scout award and her young son will be old enough to join the Tiger Cubs (pre-Cub Scouts) in a few months. We can’t wait!

When this blogger was a Girl Scout (an organization that has since turned feminist) if there was a merit badge she didn’t want to earn, or didn’t believe in, she didn’t try to earn it. Instead of taking something away from everyone, why can’t the few vegans in the Scouting ranks simply earn another badge instead? A glance at the Boy Scout Handbook shows many badges  that have nothing to do with animals.
