American’s For Prosperity Spending Revolt Tour Crossing North Carolina

Spending Revolt TrailerThe Americans for Prosperity are at it again. This time they have a Spending Revolt bus tour going across the nation, stopping at numerous cities along the way. This week, it has been in North Carolina, and this evening, it stopped at Raleigh's State Fair Grounds.

A standing-room-only crowd arrived in the Jim Graham building, adorned mostly in conservative tee-shirts, to express their dismay at liberal “leaders”, both nationally and statewide.  NC Director, Dallas Woodhouse talked about what is happening to our country, and how merely getting rid of  Obamacare would be an excellent first step in taking our country back.

“We simply cannot afford it,” he told the group of nodding heads.

The John Locke Foundation‘s Jon Sanders discussed the $1.2 billion shortfall in the state pension plan and a $2.5 billion shortfall in state employee retiree health benefits.

“You do the math.  This represents 1/3 of the state budget.  That’s $6.3 billion out of a $20 billion budget.  We have a shortfall that big.”

Civitas’ Francis De Luca, a retired Marine Colonel  (and a personal hero of KCC, having served our nation as a helicopter pilot in dangerous situations), explained how our legislature increased spending:

From 2004 – 2008, we ran a surplus of $3.2 billion dollars. That means the legislature took in that much more than they were spending. Did they continue to save? No. So when we hit 2008 and the recession/depression came along, the surplus was gone, spending was up, and the legislature had blown through $3.2 billion. Their reaction: gotta raise taxes.

Civitas President, Francis De Luca

Check out a few of the photos of the event, all taken by your blogger. If you are interested in any of the videos shot this evening, just contact KCC, and let her know. They turned out a bit shaky and are the reason they are not posted here. But the audio is there and the information is interesting!

If you live in eastern North Carolina, more stops are coming your way on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, it’s time for this blogger to head to Washington for the Smart Girl Summit, sponsored in part by AFP. Details in the next few days about that conference.
