Obama in the Sports Bar?

Wednesday, your blogger and her five-year-old son were blissfully having a late lunch  in our nearly-empty, favorite sports bar / restaurant.  In fact, they tease us that we own “half the place” as we come so often.  My son is know on a first name basis, but KCC is only known by her last name, as she always pays on the American Express card.

Your blogger was listening to her son tell her about his day at kindergarten when suddenly, that bliss came crashing down in the form of HIS voice.

That’s right, Obama’s voice filled the restaurant’s speakers and KCC started shaking. Why was HE (as his followers refer to him) on TV at a SPORTS BAR and at more so at THIS sports bar?  KCC does not go to sports bars to discuss politics any more than she goes to church to do so.

Untactfully, KCC stood up and shouted

“wait a minute! This is a sports bar.  Turn that off and I am NOT a racist. “

The bartender let KCC know that she was being rude (she was) and that a woman (an Obama Lover or OL) had requested to hear his speech about Gosh-knows-what.

Your blogger continued that she didn’t want her young son being subject to these rantings of the President and she gave the bartender five bucks if he’d turn the sound back to the classic rock music that they’d been previously playing.  He did.

(Remember the times when you wanted your kids to hear and respect the President? Bill Clinton changed all that.)

The staff all scurried in the back and proceeded to poke their heads out the door to look at your blogger, one-at-the-time.  KCC and her son waved and smiled at each one.   They all knew us but KCC assumes they needed another look at “that damned conservative, as she is often called”.

After 15 minutes of cool-off time, your blogger apologized to the bartender, and to OL, who could have simply upped the ante.  We explained that we practically live in this place all year except for summer and she’d never even seen O.L.  KCC and son then hurriedly finished eating and rushed out.   Will we return?  Not sure yet.  If we decide not to return, KCC will reveal the name of the place.

Meanwhile, the lesson is that standing up for what one believes in is difficult.  Being nice and cool about it, as God wants us to be, in the face of stress, is even harder.  Don’t be afraid to be the only one who is right.  It is the only way we will change our nation and educate some people.

Besides, that bartender could have turned on the closed-caption.
