Already? NC GOP State Chairman’s Race 2011
Is it already that time? No, not yet, but the rumblings are out there, and your blogger has been hearing rumors for quite a while. In the event you haven’t heard, we thought we’d toss these out there for your review:
We haven’t even gotten though the mid-term elections yet, but your blogger has felt for a long time, that Chairman Tom Fetzer would not stand for reelection to the top Republican Party post in North Carolina. The word came Saturday that it’s true, and Chairman Tom will be leaving his post next summer. Why?
With a new wife, and later, a new baby, the state chairman is ready to move on to a new phase in his life and your blogger cannot blame him. Its lonely at the top and he has certainly taken his share of punches, mostly unwarranted. He’s been the subject of (i.e. the gay issue) ridicule since the day he announced his candidacy, despite what your blogger feels he has done for his party. Nonetheless, with Mr. Fetzer sailing into the sunset, for now, we shall soon be looking ahead.
(KCC has never hidden her support for Chairman Fetzer, dating back to his days as Mayor of Raleigh, and we sure could use him now, in that post. But that’s another story…)
For the sake of the conservative cause, your blogger urges everyone to band together, unite and support the party and Fetzer. Afterwards, we can fight it out for what we each think the heart and soul of the party should be. UNITE FOR CONSERVATIVE VICTORY IN 2010!
Unofficially, in the race is NC GOP vice chairman, Timothy Johnson. Johnson, moved to North Carolina as an adult and got into politics in Buncombe County. He became chairman of the Buncombe County Republican Party and ascended to the NCGOP Vice Chairmanship after his overwhelming election in the summer of 2009. He then relocated to the Raleigh area. He is also chairman of the Fredrick Douglass Foundation.
He is being opposed, so we hear, by Nathan Tabor, the Republican party county chairman in Forsyth County. Tabor is an author, a social media expert, a businessman, and wears a number of other hats. Google both men to find out more.
Your blogger would believe that the libertarians who have gravitated to the party in recent years might tend to support Johnson, while Tabor would draw in the conservative Christian voters. That leaves a bloc in the middle, plus there might be room for others.
What do you think? Do you see anyone else entering the race?
Email us privately at the contact form, or post your comments for all to see. Your blogger doesn’t plan to take a stand on this race, now or in the future but we’ll see what happens.
KCC spent 27 years in North Carolina conservative and Republican activism. Though she does have opinions, she will try to present the facts as fairly and honestly as she can.

In response to Adam’s comment above: We have a lot of work to do in the immediate future to elect conservatives this November. Let’s win the 2010 election before we focus on anything beyond that. It would be all too easy to get distracted, and we have too much at stake to allow that to happen. Once Nov. 2 comes and goes, then we can focus on intraparty issues.
Frank Williams
7th District GOP Chairman
Thanks Adam. I appreciate the insight. I’ll contact Frank on the matter for a statement and see what he has to say.
I have also heard in the last day or so that Frank Williams, the chairman of the 7th District GOP, will be running. I can also confirm that the Central Committee will recommend to the Executive Committee that next year’s convention be held in Wilmington.
