Defining the Tea Party

How does one define the Tea Party?  Is it an actual political party?  Your blogger says no.  It is the purest type of grassroots movement she’s ever seen, that grew out of disgust of President Obama’s election and policies.  Many of those who either sat home on election day 2008, or who voted for Obama and regreted it, later joined a fast-growing movement.

It grew so quickly, that many Tea Party groups formed.  Some claimed to be THE tea party political action committee and others said it was a movement based on the Boston Tea Party of 1773, when American Colonists threw British Tea overboard ships to protest the taxes on their favorite drink.

Even columnist Mark Binker has gotten into the act. The Greensboro News and Record reporter, based in Raleigh, keeps up with political affairs.   In an article in Sunday’s paper, he discusses the Tea Party caucus in Congress, and how it’s hard to define in the Greensboro area.  Check it out.
