Butterfield Must Return Rangel Bribe Says Challenger

Ashley Woolard is demanding that his opponent return donations from a fellow member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Woolard says that Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC, 1st District) must return  all campaign contributions (i.e. bribes)  he accepted from fellow Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY, 15th District).  Rangle is about to come before a House Ethics committee on a number of ethics charges. Butterfield is a member of that committee.

Woolard demanded:

As the time for the Ethics Committee hearing on Rangel’s unethical behavior finally draws near, it is impreative that Butterfield, who sits on that committee, either return the bribe or recuse himself from participation from the hearings or better, both.

Woolard,  defeated three primary opponents to earn the opportunity to challenge Butterfield. This year, every single seat in North Carolina is in play. Woolard’s grizzly voice makes him sound much older than his 35 years, but his photo makes him seem much younger.

Veteran  activist Bill Tarpenning is managing Woolard’s campaign, so we know he’s in good hands.

Press Conference Tomorrow

Tomorrow, at the NCGOP headquarters,  Ashley Woolard will hold a press conference, with further details.  Your blogger hopes to be there and have it for you, here, later in the day.

For more on Butterfield’s buddy, Rangel, check out what the Wall Street Journal had to say.

Parting Shot:

In the past, when people like Rangel, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) have been in ethical trouble, they’ve simply played the race card.  Now, with Barack Obama in the White House, those days are over.  Race, is technically no longer an issue.

Perhaps, that is the one and only good thing about having him keeping Ronald Reagan‘s former seat warm, waiting for the next conservative to occupy it.
