Random Acts of Republican Morale Building

Your blogger was just checking her email and came across a bit of interesting information that she felt compelled to share.

Wake County GOP Chairman, Claude Pope, Jr., wrote an especially nice Chairman’s Message in the most recent edition of the Elephant Express.

Whenever you encounter people you don’t know, but can see are Republicans, let them know you agree with them. For example, suppose you’re in the parking lot of your local supermarket and you pass someone who’s just getting out of a car with a Republican bumper sticker on – for one of our 2010 candidates, a conservative slogan one, maybe even an old “McCain/Palin” or “W-04″ one – stop and tell them you sure like their sticker. Then strike up a conversation and see if it’s someone who might like to become a volunteer, go to an auxiliary club meeting or in some other way get more involved. Wherever the conversation leads, it’s bound to make the person feel better and strengthen their resolve.

Or maybe someone speaks up in a meeting of some sort and says something pro-Republican (or anti-Democrat). Be sure to let them know they’re not alone.

We’ve got a real advantage over the Democrats this year in our overall enthusiasm level. This sort of random friendship and bonding will help us keep it right up until the polls close.

Your blogger has actually done this and has seen others in our local GOP do it as well. Further, she has heard that former state Democrat Party leader, Jerry Meek did it to bring people into their fold.

Your blogger, as did others, kept GOP and conservative info in her car at all times. Whenever she would run into someone in a parking lot or a grocery store and strike up a conversation, the materials would be there. We didn’t want to frighten a person with too much, yet we wanted them to know they had a friend out in this liberal world, too.

One thing Chairman Pope doesn’t mention is the follow-up. Former Democrat Chairman Meek was infamous for following up with a handwritten note, but an email or phone call will certainly do.

Chairman Pope is doing an excellent job of running the state’s largest county party organization, and lead the fight to elect a more accountable school board.
